Imola has the best food in the world

Ok, so I am at Imola for the 10th round of the FIA WTCC Championship.....WORK. However, as they say "when in Rome....do as the Romans do". My boss is a Roman (from Rome as opposed to a toga-wearing historical figure). Anyway, I decided to extend the concept to "when in Imola do as Imolans do". That means eating very well.

In my four days here I have consumed 1.25 pizzas, a clam and spicy tomato dish, grilled fish with salad, tortelloni with ham and cream, spinach cannelloni, salad capresse and a few other pasta dishes. Blimey, I've realised how much that sounds. Now I know why dieticians make fat people write down what they eat - it's scary. Having travelled fairly well and never shied away from new foody delights (except pig's ear in Macau one year) I reckon Italy has the best food in the world. I love curry, I love Chinese, I love Thai. But Italian food is great ingredients cooked to bring the best out of them. As the meerkats say “shimples”.

You know something else about Italian food? It means I don’t have to listen to my Italian colleagues moaning about wishing they were eating Italian food – it’s what they do everywhere else in the world.

Ciao for now. Race day tomorrow and rain is predicted......all to play for in the championship www.fiawtcc.com.
